On May 1, 2008, the Salvation Army, Winston-Salem Area Command dedicated a new Boys & Girls Club at 2100 Reynolds Park Road. The new facility was named after Dr. Ken Carlson, a lifetime member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and one of The Salvation Army's strongest supporters. The new facility replaced the 56 year-old Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club on Martin-Luther-King Drive and opened its doors for the first time on June 16, 2008, to welcome the children for the Summer Program.
The dedication of the new club was preceded by a reception and served as the annual fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Clubs. Commissioner Israel Gaither, the National Commander of The Salvation Army, was the keynote speaker at the event.
The Summer Program at the Boys and Girls Club differs from the School Year Program. Summer is a time of fun and relaxation for children, and it provides an atmosphere that allows learning yet emphasizes "fun and recreation". Although the days are structured, boys and girls have more time to visit with each other and to make new friends.
It is the desire of the staff of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club to provide the greatest summer possible for your son or daughter. To ensure a smooth running and safe program, we do have rules and guidelines that must be followed. These guidelines are outlined in this packet.
