IRA Charitable Rollover

New legislation permanently extends the IRA Charitable Rollover provision, allowing those 70½ and older to donate as much as $100,000 of IRA account assets going forward each year to nonprofit organizations. These donations will count as part of the IRA owner's required annual payout.

Although donors will not receive a tax deduction for this distribution, they will be able to exclude this distribution from their gross income. Because the extension applies not only to future years, but is retroactive, individuals can take advantage of the Rollover back to January 1, 2015, and new gifts for 2015 must be made by December 31.

By choosing to partner with The Salvation Army with an IRA Rollover distribution, donors can gain flexibility, since distributions can be used to establish new funds or add to existing ones. For more information Karen Shore at (704) 907-1195.
