Every Christmas The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem provides gifts to thousands of children in need. Last year, 5,425 children woke up to gifts under the tree on Christmas morning thanks to the Angel Tree and Stuff a Stocking programs. The Christmas season is again approaching and again we humbly ask your support for these children.
The Angel Tree program provides gifts to children from infant to age 12. Families who have demonstrated the need register their children and each child's name, gender, and age is placed on an "Angel", along with a gift wish list. Corporations, churches, community groups, and individuals adopt angels and shop for the requested gifts, returning them to our Christmas Warehouse or our offices.
The Stuff a Stocking program is a complement to the Angel Tree, with Stockings available for adoption from specially built "Chimneys" (thanks to Sonoco Packaging of Winston-Salem!) in various locations around the area, including Chick-fil-A, Dairio, First Bank and more. See a complete list here. Like the Angel Tree, when a Stocking is adopted, the person picking it up shops for gifts from an enclosed list. They then return the stocking to the location where the picked it up and drop it down the "Chimney". For the list of stocking locations, click HERE!
The Salvation Army also partners with Toys For Tots, receiving the toys they collect for distribution to children.
All these thousand of gifts are collected at our Christmas Warehouse where a small Army (see what we did there?) sorts them and packages them for distribution. This year distribution will take place on Friday, December 14, and Saturday, December 15, with special Angels being distributed on Monday, December 17.
When you, your church group, community organization, student group, or business adopt Angels and Stockings, you bless the lives of thousands of children in the Winston-Salem area.
