Majors James and Lois Allison

portrait of James and Lois Allison

Majors James and Lois Allison are coming to Winston-Salem from The Salvation Army National Capital & Virginia Division where he served as General Secretary and she as Secretary of Women’s Ministries.

Major James Allison was born in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was invited to Sunday School by a cousin, who wanted to win a contest, at the age of eleven and was “loved into the Corps” by the Corps Officers and his Sunday School Teacher. Major Allison became a Junior and Senior Soldier, graduated from Corps Cadets but it was not until after graduating from High School that he fully committed his life to Jesus Christ and answered a definite call to Ministry in The Salvation Army. Major Allison entered The Salvation Army’s School for Officer Training, where he met his wife Lois, and they were commissioned in June 1977.

Major Lois Allison was born in Moundsville, West Virginia.  Major Allison came to the Army when her family’s house caught on fire and they lost everything. The only help they could find was from The Salvation Army. By nightfall, they had clothes, food and shelter. Her mother wanted to somehow repay the Army for all they had done for the family. In an effort to repay the Army the entire family started attending the Corps.  Following graduation from high school she attended West Liberty State College for one year and worked as an executive secretary before entering the School for Officer Training.

Majors Allison served in Corps appointments in the North and South Carolina and National Capital and Virginia Divisions.

In June 1990, Majors Allison were appointed to Divisional Headquarters staff. They have served in the Florida, Alabama/Louisiana/Mississippi, North and South Carolina and National Capital and Virginia Divisions. Major James Allison served as Financial Secretary, Divisional Secretary and General Secretary. Major Lois Allison has served as Community Care Ministries Secretary, Assistant Women’s Ministries Secretary and Secretary of Women’s Ministries.

God has blessed Majors Allison with two beautiful daughters and wonderful son-in-laws, Katrina and Stephan Wilson and Paula and Wayne Leister. Katrina and Stephan are the parents of JJ (James Jarrett) while Wayne and Paula are the parents of Preston.

Majors Allison love Jesus, love people, love to preach the Gospel, which they do every opportunity they have, and love The Salvation Army and its Mission to meet mankind at the point of need, lending a “hand up” rather than a “hand out”.
