The Salvation Army of Wake County Red Shield Club will hold it annual opening day to kick off the youth baseball season on Tuesday, April 6 at 4:45 p.m. at Hurley Raynor Field, located at the Red Shield Club, 902 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh. This is the sixth year of the opening day activities.
The 4-6 year-olds participate in t-ball, the 7-8 year-olds participate in coach pitch, and the 9-11 year-olds participate in machine pitch. Opening day includes an introductory ceremony, devotion, and a representative will throw out the first pitch from Capital Chevrolet.
Muddy the Mudcat, the mascot of the Carolina Mudcats – the Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers – will also be on hand for the festivities. Free items will be given away during the event. One hundred forty-three children are signed up for this year’s baseball program.
The opening day ceremony is free and open to the public.
