The Salvation Army of Wake County kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign in November but so far giving is down. So on December 20, TSA Wake County has kicked off its $20 Challenge where for every twenty-dollar bill placed in the Red Kettles, TSA Wake County Advisory Board will match the gift five-to-one with $100.00. The program will run through Christmas Eve.
“With Thanksgiving falling so late this year we do have six fewer days for people to make donations," said Major Al Newsome, area commander of The Salvation Army of Wake and Lee Counties. "We are grateful to our board for participating in this program. We now encourage the community to make the donations to the Red Kettles over the next four days.”
The Red Kettle Campaign began last month and runs through Christmas Eve. The Salvation Army does not ring the bell on Sundays. Locations of Red Kettles in Wake County include Walmart, Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods, Hobby Lobby, Bass Pro Shops, and Cabela’s.
The money raised in the Red Kettles helps provide toys for children at Christmas, clothes for the homeless, food for the hungry, and countless other TSA Wake County social service and after-school programs to those in need year-round. Over the last year, TSA Wake County has served almost 117,000 people through its social service programs that provide food, clothing, and shelter to those in need.
