MOST Amazing Race Raleigh set for August 25

Are you interested in running events? How about mental and physical challenges? Are you interested in helping children in your community have a safe place where they can be nurtured? The Salvation Army of Wake County’s 7th annual Most Amazing Race Raleigh combines all three elements into one event, taking place Saturday, August 25 at popular locations throughout downtown Raleigh. The scavenger-hunt-like race is patterned after the TV show “The Amazing Race” and features teams of two, completing mental and physical challenges at locations throughout downtown Raleigh.

“Each year we have met our goal and this year’s aspirational goal of $70,000 will continue to impact the lives of the children we serve, through the programs that are in part sponsored by MOST Amazing Race,” said Stephen Long, Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Wake County. “We want the community to be a part of this great event by helping us reach our goal and at the same time having a little fun.”

The MOST Amazing Race is a fundraising event benefiting The Salvation Army of Wake County's Community Center, which provides after-school care, athletic programs, and summer camps for at-risk children.

While there are many Salvation Army’s throughout North Carolina, SAWC is the only location that has MOST Amazing Race and one of a handful of Salvation Army’s in the country that hosts the event. The event continues to grow in monies raised and teams participating as evidenced by the raising of $45,000 last year and the 21 teams that participated, both records.

SAWC officials hope to have 30 teams participating in this year’s race.

Teams must raise $300 to participate and are competing for a grand prize of $2,500. The second place team will receive a $1,000 prize, and the third place team will receive a $500 prize. There are also plenty of opportunities to win other prizes throughout the race as well.

From the starting line, teams are given a clue leading them to another checkpoint and they must successfully complete challenges—following clues—until they reach the end of the race.
