Words Are Powerful...Lessons from a Poet

Today,we honor the life of a legendary poet, an activist, a mother, an educator, and a beautiful woman. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, Maya Angelou died at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The world has lost a great leader and a powerful voice. Her life marks valuable times in history. When reflecting on her life, a stream of battles, struggle, and victories flow forth.  She has endured inequality, racism, hate, and even been a victim of rape.

Her pain, her trials, her joys, triumphs, and her wisdom ring through the words of her literature. If I have not learned anything from Maya Angelou, I have learned this: Words are power…words are freedom…Words are uplifting…Words matter…Choose to leave a legacy of kindness, joy, strength, and Christ in your words. As we reflect on the life of Maya Angelou, remember, “Words are powerful.”
