The Salvation Army Kicks Off 2020 Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army will kick off its annual fundraising campaign on Friday, November 13, 2020. The Salvation Army will host more than 70 kettle locations across Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties, and volunteer bell ringers are needed to cover kettle locations during entire kettle season (November 13 through December 24).

The Red Kettle Campaign raises critical funds for The Salvation Army’s year-round programs, such as the emergency homeless shelters, men’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, rent and utility assistance program and many others. This year, the Red Kettle Campaign is more important now than ever as The Salvation Army meets an increased need caused by COVID-19.

Volunteer bell ringers allow overhead costs to remain low and enable The Salvation Army to continue investing 82 cents of every donated dollar back into the community. Volunteer bell ringers can choose from 2-hour shifts at the Haywood Mall, and groups willing to ring for an entire day can choose any approved location. Businesses, students, churches, families and other organizations are encouraged to register for a shift, an entire day or multiple days.

This year, The Salvation Army will also have two digital giving methods at the kettles. All kettles will have text-to-give information, allowing donors to give by texting “Kettles” to 41444. Select kettles will also feature kettle pay, which allows donors to give by bumping their smartphones against an NFC tag and donating through their digital wallets.

“This year, The Salvation Army has seen an increased need for assistance in our community,” says Major Andrew Kelly, Area Commander of The Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties. “Funds raised through the Red Kettle Campaign will help us meet this increased need and rescue Christmas programs, as well as our year-round services. The Salvation Army of Greenville, Pickens and Oconee Counties hope to raise over $371,000 through the help of volunteer bell ringers and our generous community.” Sign up for a volunteer bell ringing shift here.
