Did you know that summer is the worst time of the year for food donations? With everyone’s busy summer schedules, it can be easy to forget about the neediest in our communities. However, it is so important that everyone be aware of the great need during the summer.
During the summer of 2013, the food pantry in Greenville, SC ran out of food. Something that no one ever wants to happen, sadly became a reality. People who were in great need, had to be put on a waiting list and were told that there was no food to give.
With the community’s help, we can make summer 2014 different. It is easy to be a part of doing the most good. Just pick up a few extra items on a trip to the grocery store. Foods with long shelf life like pasta, peanut butter and canned vegetables are always needed. Your co-workers, church group or civil group can have a food drive. The Salvation Army will even provide containers for donations and pick up the donations for you. Do you have a baby or small child? The next time you are buying diapers pick up an extra box. Hygiene items, like toothpaste, toilet paper and feminine products are always needed as well.
The Salvation Army is constantly witnessing people stepping up and helping their neighbors. Without your help, we could not do the most good. Thank you for all you do, and please remember to donate food this summer.
