The countdown is on – 5 days from now The Salvation Army of Greensboro will be celebrating National Volunteer Week for the first time and we’re excited!

It’s often said that volunteers are the “army behind the Army” and we couldn’t agree more.  So we thought we’d take this opportunity to join other nonprofits across the country to celebrate our volunteers and the difference they are making.

Each day of the week we’ll be highlighting the incredible support that volunteers give to a specific program or service of The Salvation Army.  We’ll also recognize a specific person or group that is making an impact in a special way.

National Volunteer week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.  It’s about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

Now an initiative of Points of Light, National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year.  We’re proud to be part of that growth and hope that we can encourage our Greensboro neighbors to come alongside not just The Salvation Army, but all the hard-working nonprofits serving the community.
