Support The Salvation Army of Durham

Investing in a cause that matters.

When you give to The Salvation Army of Durham, you can rest assured that you are making a difference. In fact, we are committed to ensuring that you have control over how your donation is used. What is your passion?

Donate Now Online Red Kettle

When you donate to the Red Kettle, you are donating to The Salvation Army of Durham's programs that serve the community every day. Programs like our food pantry, emergency rent and utility assistance, and our Boys & Girls Club, just to name a few!

DONATE NOW Summer Camp

Summer Camp at The Boys & Girls Club is a jam-packed, all-day program for our Club Members. For just $50 a week, we open our doors from 8:00AM-5:00PM for children in our community to have a safe place to spend their summer. Our kids get to do things they've never done before, including visiting a horse ranch, going to the pool, trips to the zoo, and more! Not only that, but we continue to stimulate their minds by partnering with organizations like GSK for Science in the Summer, and other fun programs. When you give $50, you are supporting one child for one week of summer camp. When you donate $400, you are supporting one child for the entire summer!

DONATE NOW Food Insecurity

One in four children in North Carolina are food insecure. 81% of NC households who receive food assistance don't know where their next meal is coming from. There are an estimated 51,580 food insecure people in Durham county alone. We can help. The average cost of a meal in Durham is $2.95. Give financially to our food pantry to fight food insecurity in Durham, Orange, and Person counties.

DONATE NOW Homelessness Prevention

There are over 800 homeless people in Durham alone; over 100 of those are children. Our rental and utility assistance program can keep a family in their home for another 30 to 60 days, which can be enough time to continue a job search, or to get back on their feet. We need your help to end the vicious cycle of poverty in Durham. Give financially to our homelessness prevention program to keep families, and their children, in their homes.

DONATE NOW Childhood Education & Dropout Prevention

Over 11,000 North Carolina students dropped out of school in 2014-2015. Statistics show us that most criminals in federal, state, and local prisons did not finish high school. Our Boys & Girls Club provides world-class tutoring and test preparation during their after-school program. The cost is just $10 a year for a child in Durham to attend The Boys & Girls Club, but it costs over $2,000 annually for us to care for each child that comes through our doors. Support our Boys & Girls Club so that we can continue to provide a safe place for children in our community to flourish.

SHOP Amazon Wish List

We now have an Amazon Wishlist for our sponsors who wish to supply much-needed material items to our Club! This list will be continously updated. Thank you for your support!

HOST Food Drive

Did you know that 1 in 4 children are food insecure? In Durham and across North Carolina, food insecurity continues to be a growing problem for families in our community. We want to increase our reach; would you help us? We want organizations and businesses and individuals who are passionate about ending food insecurity to host food drives throughout the year!

Planned Giving

Support programs and services consistent with your ideals and maintain lifetime income with no management worries or fear about organization stability. Planned giving offers protection for your loved ones through income after your death, and makes giving larger gifts more possible than by any other means. Other benefits include income tax savings through present charitable deductions, lower estate tax for your spouse and other heirs, preferential treatment of capital gains tax that you would incur if you had sold your property, and control of the distribution of your estate at your death. If you’d like to learn more about any of the giving opportunities described here, simply contact our team of professionals (800) 254-0229 or email us with questions or to schedule a convenient consultation.

Appreciated Assets

Gifts of appreciated assets, such as stock or mutual funds, are a simple, effective and tax-wise way to support the work of The Salvation Army. To find out more about this gift-giving opportunity, please contact our Divisional Resource Development Representative at (800) 215-0196 before giving your order to your broker. This way, The Salvation Army is able to track your gift and ensure that it is used as designated.

Corporate-Matching Gifts

Many companies sponsor employee-giving programs that match personal contributions to The Salvation Army by individuals. Please check with your employer to see if such a program is available, as you could potentially double the impact of your gift! Most employers require you to send a Matching Gift form with your donation and for us to complete this form. Don't miss this opportunity to double and possibly triple your gift!

Memorials and Gifts "In Honor"

Gifts can be made in memory and/or in honor of individuals at special times throughout the year, such as a birthday or anniversary. During the holidays, families will often make a donation to The Salvation Army in lieu of giving presents. To make a gift in this way, simply send in your donation with a note referencing the person of whom the gift is in honor/memory. A local Salvation Army representative will then mail a card to the person you've designated, stating that a donation to The Salvation Army was made on his or her behalf. You may also contact us at (919) 313-2569 to discuss your Memorial or Honorary Gift.

Year-End Giving

Gifts postmarked on or before December 31st will be considered as gifts in 2015 for tax purposes, even if it is received and deposited in the following year. For questions about end of year giving, contact our Development Director at (919) 313-2569.
