The Durham Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club served over 500 local students with back to school supplies this past Saturday at the Fifth Annual Stars in The City Back to School Giveaway. The Durham Corps teamed up with Walmart, Musician Trez Falsetto, DJ Double A, and many other community sponsors to meet the needs of our local students.
Backpacks were organized and sorted by grade level and stuffed with the needed materials each student may need during the school year. This event was staffed by volunteers which included the Durham Salvation Army board members, NCCU Law Students, local parents and community supporters.
“I get teary eyed as I reflect on the happy faces of the parents we got to serve this weekend” said DJ Double A. “ It’s a blessing to help families in our community, especially during this time” he added.
Though this school year is beyond unconventional and what we know as “normal”, our mission has remained the same. We will continue to strive to be the beacon of light that shines amidst these uncertain times.
