Can you believe that Christmas is just around the corner? Okay, maybe it isn’t, but here at The Salvation Army of Durham, we are already beginning to plan! Each year, we serve hundreds of families in Durham, Orange, and Person County through our Christmas Angel Tree Program. We raise thousands of dollars through our Kettle Ringing to support life-giving programs that happen 365 days a year.
We hope you will join our efforts to serve the community this Christmas. Whether you choose to serve with your business, your school, your fraternity, or your family, we appreciate your partnership! Please check out the list below of available opportunities.
Kettles: Volunteer groups love serving through our Red Kettle Campaign. It’s an opportunity to spread Christmas joy to your community while raising money for a worthwhile cause! We welcome holiday costumes, and some people even play music. It’s a great time for all involved! We will continue to update our “active locations” list until kettles begin in November, so stay tuned for that information. Sign up here.
Angel Tree: Volunteers assist with a variety of different tasks regarding our Angel Tree program. Sign up here.
- Registration: From September 24-28, clients meet with staff and volunteers to register their families to receive Christmas assistance. This takes place from 9AM-4:30PM, with an hour break for lunch. Volunteers are asked to sign up for an entire shift (9AM-12PM, 1PM-4:30PM)
- Label Preparation: After the families have been registered, volunteers assist our staff team with labeling our Christmas Angels before they go to our various sponsors in the community. Dates for this opportunity TBA
- Toy Shop Setup/Gift Intake: The first week in December, staff and volunteers hustle to get “Santa’s Toy Shop” ready for our Distribution Days. This involves setting up all of the toys from sponsors and drives
Toy Drive: YOUR business, family, friend group, church, etc. can help The Salvation Army of Durham provide a great Christmas to families in need by hosting a toy drive! You collect brand new, unopened toys/clothes for kids and benefit your community! It’s as simple as that. We can help by picking up your donations and sharing your hard work on our social media and website! Sign up here.
If you are interested in any or all of these opportunities, please do not hesitate to reach out for more information. Our Volunteer Coordinator would be happy to set up a meeting and share with you what we do here at The Salvation Army of Durham and why we are so passionate about serving families in our community.
