GlaxoSmithKline and UNC Planetarium were amazing partners for The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club over the summer when they brought Science in the Summer to our Club. Our kids could not have been more engaged...did I mention that was in the summer?! Well, they've come back again, this time to our After School program, and we could not be more pleased!
GSK and UNC spent an entire week with us, conducting science experiments with our Club Members. On their final day, they brought their "After-School Mobile" to our Club. Some of our students had the opportunity to go aboard the Mobile and conduct a science experiment using strawberries, soap, and water!
Partnerships like ones with GSK and UNC Planetarium give our Club Members opportunities to engage in ways they may never get to otherwise. Statistics show us that under-represented minorities make up 35% of the college-age population, but only 11% of engineering degrees. With programs like Science in the Summer, and other STEM-related programming, we are able to instill a desire and excitement in our children for a growing field of study.
Thank you, GlaxoSmithKline and UNC Planetarium. We appreciate all you do for us, and the community. Until next time!
