The Road to The Apollo Theater Tour Comes to The Salvation Army of Durham!

On June 4, 2016, open call auditions will begin for this season of The Road to The Apollo Theater Tour. This local show, started by Captain Newborn, Executive Director of Next Level Veterans, is a chance for a talented hopeful to win an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to audition for Amateur Night at The Apollo.

For twelve weeks this summer, The Road to The Apollo Theater Tour will film their nationally televised talent show, in front of a live audience, at The Salvation Army of Durham, located at 909 Liberty Street. Both The Salvation Army and Next Level Veterans are excited about the opportunity to partner together. “The Salvation Army of Durham is a great location to film our show this season, and we are thankful to share this experience with them,” Captain Newborn shared.

“We are always looking for new partnerships in our community. We feel that this will open the door to reaching out to the community of Durham, and raise awareness about the good that both The Salvation Army and Next Level Veterans provide to this area,” said Captain Robert Viera, of The Salvation Army of Durham.

Open call auditions will take place on June 4, 18, 25, and July 2 from 10:00AM-2:00PM at The Salvation Army of Durham. Those who pass through to the next round will be on the taped show that begins on June 19 at 6:00PM, also taking place at The Salvation Army of Durham.

Auditions are open to singers, dancers, rappers, country, R&B, mimes, comedians, musicians, spoken word, and more, ages 5 through 99. There is a non-refundable $10 entry fee for those who audition; they must bring their own musical instruments and CD’s to the audition; each registrant will have 90 seconds to audition. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets to watch the show beginning June 19 will be $10 per audience member. Each show will feature a professional band, local talent from Durham and the surrounding area, as well as the classic “Sandman,” who will be hosting. Winners are chosen by audience participation.
