The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp will be beginning on Monday, June 16, and the staff has been hard at work creating an educational, beneficial program to provide youth with an opportunity to have a safe, fun summer while also offering an affordable price to their parents. For just $50 a week, a child can attend camp and receive all the benefits of a more expensive camp. This summer, camp will feature several programs such as: STEM, science, math, reading, arts and crafts and leadership/team building.
Many of the educational programs will alleviate the amount of 'summer slide' a child experiences, making their transition back into school easier. Summer camp also provides a safe place for the kids to spend their days while their parents are working. It is an affordable, quality program with all the perks of a more expensive camp.
Providing kids with a safe place to spend their days is becoming increasingly important, especially in the area The Salvation Army serves. It is the Club's goal to serve at risk youth in the greatest way possible, and often this means getting them off the streets and into a program that encourages them to be the best version of themselves.
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp offers many field trips the children otherwise may not have the opportunity to experience, such as a trip to the zoo, swimming, Emerald Pointe and many others. These opportunities are made possible by the many donors and volunteers who so graciously give of themselves to allow the Club staff to create and deliver a quality program to the children in Durham. If you are interested in donating or volunteering, your assistance is still very much needed. Please call (919) 688-7306 for more information about volunteering or sponsoring a child for the summer.
