Davidson County Kitchen Expansion Project 2022

Last year it was announced that the current homeless shelter, located in downtown Lexington, would be relocating to the property adjacent to The Salvation Army on W. 9th Ave in Lexington. Crisis Ministry, now known as DC First Hope, purchased this property last year to build their new shelter. In preparation of this move, The Salvation Army has announced the expansion of our current soup kitchen and dining hall to accommodate the food services for the new shelter and its clients. The new Salvation Army expansion will also be used as a white flag shelter in emergency weather situations when the shelter may be full.

To accommodate the feeding increase, we will be adding an additional 1800 square feet to our current building to be able to increase our feeding capacity from 60 to 250 people a day, 3 meals a day, seven days a week. Our kitchen area will have a new walk-in fridge and freezer, fully functional kitchen equipment and renovated bathrooms. This expansion will also include a renovation of our Social Service Department to offer a more accommodating lobby area for clients seeking services.

We are currently soliciting donations for our $600,000 expansion project. We have currently received half of our goal from supporting Salvation Army Board Members and community members and we need you and your contributions for the final $300,000.

Your support is needed now more than ever in this community effort to help those in most need. Giving is as easy as a click of a button. No donation is too big or to small and 100% of all donations are applied to this building expansion.

“Doing The Most Good” has never been so easy.
