Volunteers needed for Inclement Weather Center


The winter weather is here and The Salvation Army of the Midlands is in desperate need of on-call volunteers to help with serving breakfast and supper to the homeless and hungry at the Inclement Weather Center, depending upon the temperature.

The Inclement Weather Center is located at 191 Calhoun Street, Columbia, SC 29201. The center will operate on nights when the National Weather Service forecasts temperatures of 40 degrees or below.
Volunteers will be notified each day if they are needed to assist with serving supper and breakfast at the Inclement Weather Center.  Serving times are listed below.
For Breakfast Service:
  • Volunteers should arrive at 5:30 a.m.
  • Service will begin at 6:00 a.m. and serve until 6:30 a.m. with a leave time of 6:45 a.m.
  • 1-2 volunteers are needed each day that the center is OPEN.
For Supper Service:
  • Volunteers should plan on arriving at 6:45 p.m.
  • Service will begin at 7:15 p.m. and serve until 7:45 p.m. with a leave time of 8:00 p.m.
  • 4-6 volunteers are needed each day that the center is OPEN.
  • 7 volunteers is MAX per supper shift.

Volunteers will receive an email notifying them if we will need assistance due to the center being being open or closed.
