The Salvation Army of the Midlands Response to Coronavirus COVID-19

The Salvation Army of the Midlands has the safety and well being of all staff, clients and volunteers as the top priority as concerns continue to rise due to COVID-19. Below are updates as to how The Salvation Army of the Midlands is responding to ensure the safety and well being of all we serve.

Midlands Area Corps. Location and Hours:

3024 Farrow Road, Columbia, SC 29203 (8:30am to 4:30pm)

Social Services & Food Pantry:

The Salvation Army of the Midlands staff is aware of COVID-19 and has implemented extreme cleaning measures to protect the well being of clients, staff and the public in our facilities. Case managers are wearing gloves and and face masks. Hand sanitizing stations are set up in the entrance and there is a limit to the number of people allowed in the lobby at the same time.

We are assisting individuals and families with rent, utilities and housing whose income has decreased or ended as a direct result of COVID-19. Proof of documentation will be required.

Our Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday at 10am in our office, 3024 Farrow Road for people needing food assistance, clothing vouchers or furniture vouchers.

Family Stores:

The Salvation Army Family Stores located at 1312 North Millwood Avenue (Downtown Columbia) and 1341 Dutch Fork Road (Ballentine) have temporarily changed the hours of operation. The stores will be open Monday through Saturday from 12pm(noon) - 5pm.

At-home pickups are suspended until further notice; however, we will be accepting donations at any of our drop boxes (Ballentine store included) or at the Millwood store location during hours of operation.

Family Store employees are taking extra precautions to make sure shopping areas are wiped down and cleaned on a regular basis. Thank you for your continued support as we are committed to serving our community.

Leveraging Literacy After-School Reading Program:

The Leveraging Literacy program will remain closed until Richland County School District One begins the 2020/2021 school year.

Corps Worship Services:

All Corps Sunday Worship Services have resumed with an option for in-person worship service or may be viewed on Facebook Live at 10am. A face mask and social distancing is required for in-person worship services.

Corps Ministry Programs:

The following Corps Ministry Programs are suspended until further notice:

  • Sunday School Classes
  • Seniors Monthly Lunch Meeting
  • Youth Character Building Program
  • Women's Ministry

The following Corps Ministry Programs have resumed:

  • Wednesday Worship Service at 6:30pm on Zoom. To receive a Zoom invite, please contact Major Benita Morris (803) 309-6417 or
  • Men's Club each Friday at 7:00pm
