COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) – As the coronavirus continues to affect lives in the Midlands, organizations like the Salvation Army are doing what they can to help out. However, even they are facing shortages and need assistance.
“One of the critical shortages was things that people couldn’t purchase with their SNAP cards, like cleaning materials and paper products,” says Mary Turbeville, a Salvation Army volunteer.
WACH FOX’s parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group with the Salvation Army has started a campaign called “Your Neighbor Needs You Relief Fund” and the effects are already being felt.
“It is going to help the community because it will fund our programs,” says Lisa Huffman, the Salvation Army's Disaster Relief Coordinator.
“We are right now funding programs to feed, shelter and hydrate our community.”
Officials from the Salvation Army say their doors are always open for donations, especially during these difficult times.
