When The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs think about rock stars, the people and companies that go above and beyond, year after year, Dixon Hughes Goodman (DHG) comes to mind right away. This week, DHG had their United Way Campaign Kickoff Event at our Marsh Road Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club for the second year in a row.
Almost the entire firm was at the Club to be part of the event. As one employee stated while speaking to his coworkers, “This is who we are, and who we want to be. We need to get out in the community more and working with United Way makes it easy to do.”
The day started off with local and state Youth of the Year, Tatiana, speaking to the crowd, thanking them for making this a special day at the Club and telling them her story of how the Club got her out of her shell and made her the young women she is today.
Along with face painting and handing out Halloween goodie bags, the firm split the children into teams and did a mummy relay race (talk about a lot of toilet paper)! Members could be heard laughing and enjoying themselves throughout the gym as they raced around the cones to beat their friends.
Being wrapped in toilet paper and running around really makes you break a sweat. No worries, a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream cart was outside waiting for the kids to get a few scoops of their favorite flavor, with sprinkles of course. As kids ate their ice cream, they had the opportunity to get their face painted and play corn hole with the DHG employees.
Inside the Club, members were working with the volunteers to make bead jewelry and coloring sheets. Overall it was a fun and different type of day for the Club kids. We would like to thank Dixon Hughes Goodman for picking The Marsh Road Club as their host for their United Way Campaign Kickoff. We love working with The United Way and their agencies that support the Charlotte community.
