The first thought that came to my mind was the phrase heart to God, hand to man! As we stood before Gods people serving hot meals. I was continually reminded that these individuals were in need, whether that need was a physical or spiritual one. Each plate that was served was followed up with a "God Bless You", which sometimes led into further discussions about the Lord and how The Salvation Army fits into His perfect plan for us all! Although I became weary from the heat and long man hours. I was constantly reminded of God's instructions about the act of service. He says in the book of Psalms "Be still and know that I am God."
Although disaster work requires a lot of time and energy. I was able to take comfort in these words and find the peace that surpasses all human understanding! May the words "God Bless you" reside not only in the state of Florida where we left those individuals that we served. But also remain in the hearts of us all!
