For the second consecutive year, NFL linebacker Shaq Thompson is leading an effort to raise funds and awareness for the local Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs. “Shaq Thompson’s Tackles for Kids” is a pledge campaign based on his season-long on-field performance.
Proceeds from the campaign will benefit the local Clubs. Last year, the campaign raised more than $18,000 for local Club programming.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte is a great organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of young people through all of its programs,” said Shaq Thompson. “And since sports have been so influential in my life, I'm excited about helping raise much needed funds and awareness for the sport programs that the Clubs offer to its members.
“Shaq Thompson has become a great friend of the Boys & Girls Clubs, and we are honored to have his support again this year,” said Marty Clary, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte. “The funds raised will continue to help us with our Triple Play Get Fit Challenge, a daily program promoting good health and habits among our members.”
How the “Shaq Thompson’s Tackles for Kids” pledge campaign works:
Individuals are encouraged to visit www.pledgeit.org/shaqthompson to make a pledge to help support The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte. Depending on the number of tackles Shaq Thompson gets during each game, and ultimately the season, those pledges are turned into contributions to benefit the Clubs and its sports and fitness programs.
When contributors make a pledge of $1 or more per tackle, or a flat donation of at least $40, they’ll e entered to win a football signed by Thompson. Contributors of $5 or more per tackle, or a flat donation of $50, will receive a limited-edition, custom-designed campaign T-shirt.
“This campaign goes beyond football, it’s about giving to those who truly need and deserve our support,” Thompson added. “Thank you for supporting my cause and all of your support throughout my career!”
