Club Members Receive Back-to-School Shopping Spree

Twenty kids from our West Blvd. and Dillehay Courts Boys & Girls Clubs had a treat this week, as they had the chance to go on a back-to-school shopping spree at Academy Sports + Outdoors.

The event was made possible by Academy Sports + Outdoors in partnership with local high schools involved in the upcoming Charlotte High School Football Kickoff Night. Coaches from Vance, West Mecklenburg, Providence Day, Olympic, Myers Park and Charlotte Country Day all participated in the event and shopped alongside the kids. Charlotte Kickoff Night is on Aug. 19 with a full slate of big matchups at Memorial Stadium. It serves as the official beginning of high school football season in the Queen City. (You can get your tickets online now).

Each child received a $100 gift card to by whatever he or she needed (or wanted) to help with back to school. Many kids picked out clothing, backpacks and lunchboxes, but shoes were a hot item.

“This was the best day ever!” said Braylon, one of the deserving Club members at the event. “It’s a blessing. It’s like walking into a dream.”

This is the program’s eighth year and it has grown to include over 100 similar events, benefitting over 3,000 kids throughout the Southeast and Midwest U.S. Thank you, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and particularly the staff at the Academy Sports at Concord Mills, for making this event possible. It was a great day in the lives of kids in Charlotte, and not one they’ll soon forget!
