Flash mob breaks out to celebrate Family Dollar and Boys & Girls Club partnership.

Often when you walk into a Boys & Girls Club you will see kids learning, laughing and dancing with volunteers from organizations all over the Charlotte area. Last Friday, the members weren’t the ones doing the dancing; it was the Family Dollar staff members who surprised the Club kids with a flash mob!

The Milton Road Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club hosted associates and executives from Family Dollar and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to conclude a national giving campaign that Family Dollar held in their stores during the holiday season. Family Dollar staff celebrated the over $350,000 by kicking off the check presentation with the flash mob.

The funds will go to The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, in support of the nearly four million young people served by Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide.

“We are thrilled to be able to help provide a great place for boys and girls to learn and grow,” said Tammy DeBoer, Family Dollar Chief Merchandising Officer.

Boys & Girls Club alum, celebrity chef Pat Neely, and the Charlotte Hornets Honeybee Dancers with Hugo were among the guests on hand to make the day even more special for our Club members. Pat Neely hosted a Healthy Lifestyles Trivia Game; the Charlotte Hornets staff held a basketball clinic and the Charlotte Honeybee Dancers put on a dance clinic for the members.

“At Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we have the unique opportunity to provide resources and tools to empower children and teens, especially those who need it most in many of the local markets Family Dollar serve,” said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte will receive a share of the $350,000 raised in the campaign, as will other area chapters.
