Doug Mayes, Charlotte TV Pioneer and Longtime Supporter, Promoted to Heaven

The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte has lost a good friend. Doug Mayes, a fixture in the Charlotte media scene for decades, passed away yesterday at the age of 93.

He’s most known as the voice and face of WBTV News, joining their team in its infancy in 1952. But, we had the privilege of knowing Mr. Mayes in another way, as he was a life member of The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte’s Advisory Board and an active member The Salvation Army Charlotte Adult Rehabilitation Center Advisory Council.  Lately, due to his health, he wasn’t able to be as active as he would want, but he was always eager to support the work of The Salvation Army. We pray for his family today, as he will be greatly missed!
