Announcing the 2014-2015 Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year……Hydeia Harvey.
It is with great pleasure to announce Hydeia Harvey as 2014-2015 Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Greater Charlotte Youth of the Year. She was chosen out of hundreds of students who attend the eight Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs in Charlotte.
Hydeia represents the Milton Road Boys & Girls Club, where she has been going for 7.5 years. Hydeia exemplifies the very best of the three outcomes that we work to instill in our members: academic excellence, community service/good citizenship, and a healthy lifestyle.
Hydeia’ is known as one of the hardest working and well-round people at the Club and at her High School, Rocky River. She continues to be dedicated to her studies and is motived by challenges. She consistently ranks as one of the top 10 students in her class over the last four years and currently has a grade points average of 4.4 (10 out of 381 students). After High School Hydeia plans to attend Howard University, where she plans to major in Film and become a director.
Hydeia isn’t just a member at the Boys & Girls Club, but a Junior Staff at the Milton Road Club where she has been a source of help, leadership and a role model for younger members. She also volunteers at the Crisis Assistance Ministry, through Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successful), a program developed by the National Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Hydeia continues to be very active in service at her school, organizing a school-wide carnival and being elected as the Vice President of the student government her junior year.
Hydeia doesn’t just excel in the Club and classroom; she has also shown success on the field. She has been a 4- year varsity basketball player, and has run cross country and track while attending Rocky River. She has received accolades, such as: player of the week, coach’s award and team captain.
We are more than thrilled to have Hydeia be our Youth of the Year and call her a club member. We are excited to see where she goes and know that she will succeed in anything she does going forward.
