"One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus"

It’s been three weeks since the massive shooting at Emanuel AME church in downtown Charleston that took the lives of nine innocent people. The victims ranged in age, but all of them were Christians who were very involved in the community.

One of the victims was Mrs. Ethel Lance. She was involved in one of The Salvation Army’s ministry programs until a couple of years ago when she started working at Mother Emanuel.

Mrs. Lance was an active member of the "Golden Girls" program, which is part of the women's ministry at The Salvation Army. The group of ladies meet on Tuesdays at 1:00pm for about an hour. Many of them started attending when the organization was downtown and still come even though it is now located in West Ashley.

Their theme song is "One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus," and we've been told that it was also Ethel's theme song for her life.

Is this a program you might be interested in? If so, contact the Salvation Army office for more information at 843-763-9881.

Please continue to pray for the nine families that lost loved ones last month, for the Holy City, and for our "Golden Girls." #CharlestonStrong #PrayforCharleston #CharlestonUnited

"One Day at a Time, Sweet Jesus"

I'm only human, I'm just a woman.
Help me believe in what I could be
And all that I am.
Show me the stairway, I have to climb.
Lord for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.

One day at a time sweet Jesus
That's all I'm asking from you.
Just give me the strength
To do everyday what I have to do.
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus
And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way
One day at a time.

Do you remember, when you walked among men?
Well Jesus you know if you're looking below
It's worse now, than then.
Cheating and stealing, violence and crime
So for my sake, teach me to take
One day at a time.
