Free Donuts On National Donut Day!

Looking for an excuse to cheat on your diet tomorrow? How about free donuts because of National Donut Day!

The Salvation Army is no stranger to donuts, in fact, we started National Donut Day in 1938. It was a fundraiser to raise money during the Great Depression and to commemorate the Donut Lassies who served those fighting during World War I.

Who are the Donut Lassies? They were women Salvation Army volunteers that traveled overseas and set up small huts near the front lines where they could give soldiers clothes, supplies, and donuts! It helped boost morale and gave the soldiers fighting a little treat that reminded them of home.

The donut now serves as a symbol of the comfort that The Salvation Army provides to those in need through its many social services programs. We still serve donuts, in addition to warm meals and hydration, to those in need during times of disaster.
