Heat Care Supports Families in Need

On July 21, 2017, The Salvation Army recognized thirty-four years of contributions by PSNC Energy to support utility assistance programs throughout its service area in North Carolina. Major Todd Hawks, General Secretary of the Carolinas Division, presented an award to Rusty Harris, President & COO of PSNC Energy, at the utility company’s office in Gastonia, NC to express gratitude for the Heat Care Fund.

Since 1983, The Salvation Army has received and distributed more than $4.2 million to more than 100,000 families from The Heat Care Fund. The program was established by PSNC Energy to support senior citizens and other low-income individuals and families in paying their heating bills. Each month, PSNC matches the contributions made by customers to the fund. Since its inception, PSNC has collaborated with The Salvation Army who distributes the resources to those in need. To ensure those with the most need receive help, PSNC, a natural gas utility, allows these funds to be used for any type of fuel used to heat a home.
