Elon University Partnership
The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club is in partnership with The Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement at Elon University and has established many relationships through this effort. University students serve as mentors, support staff and tutors to Club members. Through our collaboration with academic classes each semester, we have been able to build upon our internal program campaigns and public relations program. Oftentimes, the efforts behind this progress have originated with the skills and imaginations of Elon students in communications, marketing and the Love School of Business classes.
Normally, we have over fifty students each semester who provide this connection. Additionally, we have hosted a Leader in Collaborative Service (LINCS) student for each of the seven years that the program has been in existence. We also host Federal Work Study students and pay 25 percent of their hourly wage through Elon University. Furthermore, we host student interns and practicum students from the Department of Human Services, and our staff is regularly invited to campus to speak to classes, hear student presentations and attend pre-semester programs for community agencies.
This partnership is fundamental to our work and is greatly beneficial to both the University students and our Club.
