Music and Creative Arts Programs

Music • Arts • Worship

Music and Arts serve as a major part of The Salvation Army's History and the Army has long strived to use whatever means possible to convey their message of love. Here in the Carolinas, music and the arts are alive and well. Divisional Headquarters (administrative office for North and South Carolina) employs music department staff that are responsible for developing training curricula, resourcing local Army units with instruments and training materials, administering the Carolinas Music and Arts Summer Conservatory program, and planning and directing many music and arts related events throughout the calendar year.

Music and Arts Programming

Carolinas Music and Arts Conservatory

One of the highlights of the Music and Arts Program is the Carolinas Music and Arts (CMA) Conservatory. For 5 weeks each summer, outstanding young musicians from across the Carolinas come to Camp Walter Johnson where they receive in-depth instruction from well-qualified music and arts instructors (usually, enrolled in a related college program).

While attending Conservatory, students receive training in various musical instruments (e.g. brass, keyboard, drums), in voice, and in various forms of artistic expressing (including drama, mime, and dance).

For more information on these programs, please contact Divisional Headquarters Music Department at 704-972-3488.

Divisional Youth Music and Arts Programs

The Music and Arts Department administers a year round set of programs aimed at developing key musicians and artists and allow them to participate and perform through various outlets. These include a Divisional Youth Band (Brass Band), Divisional Youth Drama, and Divisional Youth Dance. Young people must audition and when successfully accepted into a group, continue to meet monthly for rehearsals/performances.

For more information on these programs, please contact Divisional Headquarters Music Department at 704-972-3488.

Carolinas' Divisional Band

The Carolinas' Divisional Band is European-style brass band of approximately thirty members.  The membership is comprised of Salvation Army soldiers and officers that represent the most faithful and talented Salvation Army musicians from across North Carolina and South Carolina. The band rehearses and performs annually across North Carolina and South Carolina.
