Speak out
By creating a potential for transformative change, advocacy is an important tool in fulfilling the mandate of The Salvation Army to serve suffering humanity and to be a transforming influence on the communities of the world
An international group of participants, from as many nations as the Army is presently serving, will meet through the Internet in March 2010 to learn from each other and to share their thoughts, opinions and expertise in an online conference.
The conference is sponsored and managed jointly by the International Social Justice Commission and The Salvation Army Ethics Centre of the Canada and Bermuda Territory. One of the major goals of the International Social Justice Commission is to ‘Raise strategic voices to advocate with the world’s poor and oppressed’. The online conference has been therefore given the name ‘Speak Out’, to emphasise the main topic: Advocacy.
There will be three main streams for the conference: Theory of Advocacy, Theology and History of Advocacy, and Promising Practices of Advocacy. The Speak Out presentations will be in a wide variety of formats, and may include documents, audio files and video. The Speak Out e-summit is also designed to be thoroughly interactive, however, so there will be opportunities for discussions with other registrants and the conference leaders.
