"Doing the Most Good" Together
Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. Volunteering is intended to promote good or improve human quality of life.
Since its beginning, volunteers have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Salvation Army to provide help for the poor and downtrodden and those affected by natural disasters. In fact, the name "The Salvation Army" came about in 1878 when William Booth adapted it from a phrase he read in a report that described the organization as a "volunteer army." Often referred to as "the army behind The Army," volunteers play a crucial role in the Salvation Army's ability to provide quality social services to the local community.
Volunteers are valuable assets in the Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our community. Through the skills and experience they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families and support communities.
