On Monday, May 17, 2010, Mayor Allen Joines and the City Council of Winston Salem passed a resolution recognizing the work of The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs. 

Text of the resolution:

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SALVATION ARMY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

WHEREAS, since 1938, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club has been a positive environment for the youth in Winston-Salem. Its programs promote and enhance the development of young people by instilling in them a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club has a structured five core program that includes: Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, the Arts, and Sports & Fitness. Each program is designed to enhance young people as they grow into
responsible citizens with leadership abilities, future aspirations, active lifestyles, multicultural appreciation, positive use of time and interpersonal skills; and
WHEREAS, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club provides an environment that is safe, educational and fun for all that attend throughout the year; and
WHEREAS, the Winston-Salem Area Command currently operates two sites: the Ken Carlson Boys & Girls Club on Reynolds Park Road which serves over 500 members and the International Boys and Girls Club on New Walkertown Road which serves more than 150 members. Each site provides an opportunity for the young people to make new and lasting friends; and
WHEREAS, the mission of The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Winston-Salem do hereby recognize The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, the Area Commander and the dedicated Club staff for all that they do for the youth of Winston-Salem.
