Christmas 2011
A total of 16,682 persons were served this Christmas in the Cape Fear Region by The Salvation Army. The Angel Tree saw 4,139 Christmas Angels adopted. 31,027 new toys were distributed along with more than 4,500 stocking and 475 bicycles. We distributed over $56,470 in food gift cards to hungry families. At visits to nursing homes, correctional facilities and hospitals, 9,592 gifts were given to senior adults, prisoners and shut-ins. 179 meals were served to the homeless on Christmas Day. 4,490 coats and 200 blankets were distributed to the homeless. A total of 10,800 hours of volunteer service was rendered by 3,362 volunteers from hundreds of different churches, civic clubs, schools and agencies who rang bells, took applications, sorted toys, loaded vehicles and served meals.
