You are invited to join us in an evening of laughter and jabs as we salute Betsy Fleming, President of Converse College. This year’s TOAST OF THE TOWN marks the nineteenth annual event.
All proceeds raised support the youth programs at the Salvation Army Community Center of Spartanburg County. These programs focus on at-risk youth, education, character building, fitness and health, and spiritualism. The Center operates year-long for the community through programs which are separated into after-school, athletic, and summer sessions.
“President Betsy” as she is affectionately dubbed by the students in her charge will be “Roasted” and “Toasted” by outstanding members of the Spartanburg community. “Roasters” for the evening are Susu Johnson, Billy Webster, Nick Fleming and students, Samantha Nicholson and Miya Evans-Walker.
A native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Dr. Fleming was graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University and received a Master of Arts in History of Design from the Royal College of Art in London. She earned a Ph.D. in the History of Art from Yale University. Dr. Fleming is among the youngest college presidents in the country. She brings to Converse and South Carolina a dynamic brand of leadership and a focused commitment to advancing and transforming higher education to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century.
