Sponsor a Kid

You can help make a child’s summer a bit brighter by sponsoring a kid at The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club.  Over 100 kids attend the summer day camp in High Point, which runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Club hosts kids anywhere from 5 to 18 years old.  Although there is a small weekly fee to attend, most of the children are on scholarship.

“Every summer, we’re seeing more parents unable to pay for a safe place for their kids to be during the day while they are at work,” said Anjani Webb, Development and Marketing Coordinator for The Salvation Army of High Point.  “We have scholarships for that very reason, but right now we’re unable to offer any more unless additional funds come in.”

The summer day camp runs Monday through Friday, all summer long.  The Club offers arts and crafts, movies, breakfast, lunch and a daily snack.  The facility also boasts two baseball fields and an outside pool.  The Club’s goal is to take the group on two field trips a week.  One outing is always free, and the other involves a small cost.

“Unless a child has the money to attend the field trip, if he or she is on scholarship, it’s highly unlikely that they’re able to go,” Webb explained.  They won’t be alone; currently we have around 30 that stay behind.  The staff makes a great effort for the kids to have fun at the Club but it is always our wish to take the whole group every time.”

Paid field trips for the entire summer only add up to $50 per child.  To sponsor a child at the Boys and Girls Club of High Point or help in another way, please call 1-336-881-5444.
