HIGH POINT – The local Salvation Army at 301 West Green Drive will begin accepting applications for Christmas assistance beginning on October 26. Registration is open to qualifying residents who reside in the following zip codes of Guilford County and Randolph Counties: 27260, 27262, 27263, 27265, 27282, 27263, 27350, 27370.
Applications will be taken from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. October 26 through the 29.
Applicants must bring the following documents in order to apply: picture ID of the applicant, social security cards for every member of the household, verification of address, proof of income or no income, and proof of guardianship. Applicants will also be asked for the children’s current height and weight, clothing sizes, as well as a short list of needs and wishes.
The annual Christmas program provides food for families during the holidays and clothing and toys for children. Through the Angel Tree program, which kicks off on November 13, local residents can adopt an Angel and provide the child with a basic need as well as the Child’s Christmas Wish. An estimated 1,600 children will be helped this year.
The Christmas assistance program runs until December 8, 2009. Items will be gathered and sorted at the High Point Salvation Army and then made available for family pickups a few weeks later. “Any donations or gifts will make a child’s Christmas much brighter,” said Captain Tony Perez.
