Each year in North and South Carolina, 1,300 deserving low-income children experience the great outdoors at Salvation Army summer camp.  Our summer camp, Camp Walter Johnson is nestled amongst 200+ acres in beautiful Denton on land donated to The Salvation Army decades ago by Walter Johnson.

While at camp, disadvantaged kids leave lives of stress and trouble behind.  While they're busy having the times of their lives swimming, hiking, and making friends, they're learning important skills they need to make the right choices.  It's here they discover that each and every one of them is truly special, no matter what kinds of difficulties life has dealt them.  For some children this is the first vacation they have ever had and the first time they have went fishing!

Ask a child who has attended The Salvation Army summer camp to describe their experience and you usually get this one word response, "Fun!"  Camp is where you get to have pillow fights and stay up late in your cabin until your counselor tells you to go to sleep.  Whether a child attends the Wilderness Camp, Sports Camp, or Music Camp, the theme for the week is always the same - meeting new friends, learning new things, and most importantly being free to be a kid.

With your help we can ensure that every child from our programs will be able to attend summer camp this year, there they will form lasting friendships, learn lifelongs skills like teamwork, and gain confidence in themselves and their futures.  Send a Kid to camp and make a donation today!
