Syngenta Volunteers

Employees at Syngenta Crop Protection decided to get their hands dirty with their United Way project this year.  They adopted The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope playground and decided to renovate the play area. A group of workers from the Environmental Safety team not only designed the new look, they worked with local companies to get many of the materials donated at cost.

The renovations started with a new layer of mulch in the play area.  Hardscapes by Design and Re-Mulch provided the mulch to Syngenta at cost as well as delivered and spread it for free.  Then a team of volunteers from Syngenta then added sand to the new sandbox one wheelbarrow at a time.

“It was a great opportunity to bring our employees together and do something good for our community”, said Ron Hampton, one of the team leaders at Syngenta.  “Everyone really enjoyed transforming the space for the kids at the Center of Hope.”

The project isn’t over yet.  The team will build and install an arbor over the sandbox area to provide some shade for the children.  In addition to the manual labor, the team purchased toys to be used outside as well as inside the Center of Hope.
