Emergency & Disaster Relief Services

The Salvation Army responds to meet people in their time of need—in their place of need. Professionally trained disaster relief personnel are on call throughout the Carolinas should an emergency or disaster occur. We provide spiritual comfort as well as food and water, shelter, and clothing—and we stay as long as we are needed.

The Salvation Army & the Marines

The Salvation Army has partnered with the Marine Corps Disaster Relief Unit 1, which is located in Charlotte. These retired Marines return to duty as volunteers in the event of a major disaster.

During Hurricane Katrina, The Salvation Army and Relief Unit 1 were among the first to respond with mobile feeding canteens, support vehicles, and tractor-trailers. Harris Teeter provided refrigerated trucks filled with food, water, and ice.
