Christmas Assistance

Registration for all Salvation Army Christmas services, including the Christmas Bureau, the Angel Tree and Silver Bells is held each fall.

2011 dates for registration are as follows:
October 10 - November 4
Monday - Friday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Saturday October 22 & October 29 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

The Salvation Army Christmas Center is located at 801 E. Arrowood Road, Charlotte, NC 28217. It is in the former WalMart building at South and Arrowood.

For the protection and safety of your children, NO children, including infants, will be allowed at The Salvation Army Christmas Center during registration or gift pick-up. There will be no exceptions, so please plan accordingly.

Requirements

Families must be receiving food stamps, unemployment, Medicaid, or meet the income guidelines to qualify for Christmas assistance.

Children ages 0 to 14 can be registered to received Christmas presents through the Angel Tree program.

Seniors ages 60 and older can register for Silvers Bells.

Registering children

If you meet the above requirements, you MUST HAVE the following documents with you to register for Christmas assistance. There are no exceptions.

  1. For Parents & Guardians
    - Photo ID
    - Social Security Card/W-7 Form
  2. For Each Child Registered
    - Social Security Card/W-7 Form
    - Official Proof of Date of Birth (i.e. Birth Certificate or Medicaid Card, it must show the birth date.)
  3. For Proof of Income Qualification
    - Current Medicaid Card, last years W-2, unemployment papers
  4. For Proof of Current Address (Must be in Mecklenburg or Union County)
    - Picture ID
    - Utility bill or other bill if your address is different from your ID.

Upon registering you will be asked for shirt, pant, and shoe sizes for each child and for three gift ideas under $50. Video game systems, iPods, and gift cards are not acceptable suggestions. The Salvation Army does not guarantee the quality or quantity of gifts received through the Angel Tree program. 

To meet the greatest needs in our community, we partner with other agencies that provide Christmas assistance to ensure that families do not receive assistance from multiple programs.  If you register with an additional program, you will receive notification that your child has been removed from the Angel Tree program.  

Registering adults ages 60 and over

  1. Photo Identification
  2. Social Security Card
  3. Proof of Income Qualification (i.e., Medicaid Cards, Tax Information, SSI Papers)
  4. Proof of Current Address (Must be in Mecklenburg or Union County.)
