Donna King believed in the mission of The Salvation Army. Her husband, Berthurum, was a WW Vet who benefited from the help of The Salvation Army, and even in his death Donna had shared that The Salvation Army was a huge support to her. According to her daughter-in-law, Betsy Heider, "Donna believed that The Salvation Army was the greatest organization. They helped soldiers during the war, they help anyone in need and she wanted to be a part of that" As a result, Donna left $10,000 to The Salvation Army of Aiken upon her death. The Salvation Army of Aiken operates a Homeless Shelter for men, women and children as well as a Soup Kitchen, Social Services Office and Boys & Girls Club.
