The Red Kettle

When you put money in our kettle, expect change

The Salvation Army Kettle has become a ubiquitous part of holiday celebrations in the United States. From the "Kettle Kick-Off" held at Thanksgiving each year by the Dallas Cowboys to the ringing of bells at your local grocery store, the kettle is a familiar and welcomed symbol of this time of year.

You may not know that even though The Salvation Army is an international organization, the use of the kettle was first pioneered here in the United States (read the complete history here). You may also not be aware that The Salvation Army in the US is continuing to pioneer and develop new ways for people to get invovled with "ringing the bell" to help others at Christmas. There are some aspects of our culture that have opened the doors to new opportunities.

A Connected World

In a world where everyone is conencted through different social networks, The Salvation Army recognized the opportunity to join in and use these tools to help keep people informed of the great needs and also to allow people easy ways to invite others to give. Enter The Online Red Kettle.

The Online Red Kettle essentially a social-network based tool that supporters of the Army can use to become personally involved in raising resources from the comfort of their home or office. Users can create teams that compete with others to see which team or organization can raise the most money, with the proceeds benefiting literally millions in our country.
