The Salvation Army Serves Area Residents after Hurricane Arthur

Hurricane Arthur made landfall late Thursday night at Shackleford Banks, N.C. as a Category 2 storm with 100 mph winds. It was the first Category 2 storm to make landfall in the United States since Hurricane Ike in 2008. A hurricane warning and tropical storm warnings are in effect for many areas along the storm’s path.

Tropical Storm Arthur strengthened into a hurricane early Thursday morning. As the center of the storm shifts, its impacts are moving closer to the North and South Carolina coastline. Conditions continue to deteriorate along the North Carolina coast.

The Salvation Army Monitors Tropical Storm Arthur

As Tropical Storm Arthur makes its projected movement up the east coast, The Salvation Army is prepared to respond to the impacted areas if the need arises. Organization personnel along the coast are preparing canteens (mobile feeding units) for the potential to provide hot meals, cold drinks and snacks to those affected. While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program consists of several basic services: food service, emotional and spiritual care and emergency assistance.

Stein Mart Hosts “Trade In, Trade Up” Event to Benefit The Salvation Army

Stein Mart and The Salvation Army are partnering March 20-22 for the retailer’s “Trade In, Trade Up” event. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their new or gently used clothing this weekend to Stein Mart in exchange for 20% off coupons towards the purchase of a new item (limit two coupons).

Hams for Hunger

The Salvation Army staff in Greenville, South Carolina is used to giving away food to individuals in need, 365 days a year. Today the non-profit organization is the one receiving a large food gift, right in time for Christmas. Hormel Foods is donating 500 of its Cure 81 hams, through local retailer BI-LO, as part of its Hams for Hunger program.
